Communities In Bloom is a Canadian beautification and environmental awareness program that provides information and education in order to instill civic pride and community appreciation of our surroundings.

The City of Pembroke has been participating in this competitve program since 1998, and has won both the Provincial and the National competitions for our population category!  In 2010, we competed at the International level and were awarded 5 (out of 5) Blooms, as well winning the Best Land Reclamation Project for our efforts at the Pembroke Waterfront. You can view the submission document here.

The Communities in Bloom program encourages residents and businesses of municipalities to take pride in their communities, and each year participants are judged on their efforts in 8 different categories, including: Tidiness, Community Involvement, Environmental Effort, Natural and Heritage Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscaped Areas, Floral Displays, and Turf and Groundcover Areas.

Pembroke has received special recognition for its Floral Displays, Environmental Effort, Tidiness, Community Involvement and Heritage Conservation.

This civic pride program has helped Pembroke to blossom, and it is because of the efforts of the  local committee that is made up entirely of VOLUNTEERS. They ensuer that each year a local competition is held between the residents, businesses and institutions; that there is an annual Community Clean-up, and that the public is aware of the overall importance of this program.

If you would like to be part of this exciting program, please contact the City of Pembroke at 735-6821 x 1510.
