Business Fire Safety
Fire Doors
The main purpose of a fire door, is of course to provide optimum protection for persons and property. Not only do fire doors provide a way out of a building should a fire occur, but they also slow the spread of fire and smoke, allowing a safe corridor of exit.If doors are left open, smoke and heat can travel throughout a building and possibly prevent you and others from safely exiting. By keeping them closed, you ensure your safety and that of your fellow tenants
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers in a business should be placed conspicuously and within easy reach so they can be accessed quickly while a fire is still small. The extinguisher must be within easy reach, in working order, and fully charged. You are required to have a staff member check the extinguisher every month and keep accuarate records.
Emergency Lighting
The Ontario Fire Code Section 2.7.3.3. requires that emergency lighting be inspected and tested on a monthly basis. The Pembroke Fire department has a sample monthly check sheet which can be used for this purpose.
