Fire fighter Wayne Andrews on the 50-foot aerial ladder
The original report of the fire was that the Standard Observer roof was on fire. A Lafrance Pumper and 50-foot Telesqurt initially responded. On arrival, heavy black smoke was already escaping through the air vents in the center of the building. With so many false walls and with the large amount of flammable materials the fire spread very fast. All members of the Pembroke Fire Department were called in to battle this blaze, a total of 23 fire fighters in all. Three fire fighters were taken to hospital, One fire fighter was serious injured and was never able to return to fire fighting.
