Mayor

Welcome to Pembroke! The
Heart of the Ottawa Valley ...
Thank you for visiting our
website. What would make me even happier is to have you visit
our City in person and experience first hand all that we have to offer.
As a community that was established
in 1828 we can follow our roots back to pre-confederation, in fact the
recent Pembroke Superior court House (built in 1868) which has undergone
a $15 million retrofit speaks to that fact, and it should be on your
checklist of places to see when you are visiting Pembroke. The building
has been restored to its original grandeur and architectural prominence.
Pembroke has a strong historic
past rooted in the lumber industry, and its future remains bright and
optimistic as we focus on the fact that we are the largest centre between
Ottawa and North Bay along the Trans Canada Highway. We relish
the fact that we have state of the art health, eductional, and recreational
facilities.
The Pembroke Regional Hospital
has just undergone a tremendous expansion, and the recent diagnostic
services enhancements wil serve the people of this region for many years
to come, as they can be assured of the best in health care.
We strongly support our youth
and the education system offers state of the art English and French
elementary and high schools, as well as a Montessori school, presenting
local students with many options with which to explore their future.
Algonquin College has been a cornerstone in our community for over forty
years, and continues to offer courses of excellence that include programs
in outdoor adventure, nursing, social services, business and forestry.
We participate in the National
Communities in Bloom program and have been awarded five blooms for the
past three years. Come and enjoy the Annual Old Time Fiddling and Step
Dancing championships held each Labour Day Weekend. Visitors come from
all over the world to experience the finest fiddling found in Canda.
See our Murals - Canada's largets outdoor gallery, with 30 exceptional
works of art depicting our rich history painted on our downtown buildings.
Pembroke is renowned as Hockey
Town Canada, and if you like hockey you will love the Silver Stick Hockey
Tournament that takes place each year. It is the largest amateur hockey
tournament in North America with over 160 teams participating.
We have a lot to offer, and
we invite you to come and live in a City that cherishes small town attributes.
Our website tells it all!
