Local Market
The City of Pembroke and
surrounding area, with total population of 74,000 inside a 25-mile (40
km) radius, represents both the greatest population density and major
commercial/service centre within the County of Renfrew. Throughout the
annual busy tourist season (June to September), the local population
experiences increased growth as Renfrew County welcomes over 1 million

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL
|
Pembroke's manufacturing sector benefits a great deal from its direct
access to Canada's major domestic trading market; the combined Quebec
and Ontario population of 19.8 million (2006 census) accounts for 61%
of the country's total population. The large American market to the
south plays a vital role in the export and consumption of locally produced
goods; border crossings to the neighbouring United States are only a
4-hour drive from Pembroke, with none of the gridlock and conjestion
associated with the 401 through the GTA. The growth and scope of goods
shipped is a direct indication of the diversity and ingenuity of Pembroke's
labour force and investors; leading commodities shipped include fabricated
wood, paper, metal and textile products. Pembroke's network of transportation
and communication services allow for cost efficient distribution and
promotion of the manufactured goods produced, most of which are bound
for areas throughout Ontario, Eastern Quebec and central U.S.A.
