Mayor

Welcome to the City of Pembroke

Thank you for visiting our website.  What would make me even happier is to have you visit our City in person and experience first hand all that we have to offer.

As a community that was established in 1828 we can follow our roots back to pre-confederation. The Pembroke Superior Court House (built in 1868) attests to our history.  Be sure to add it to your checklist of places to see when you are visiting Pembroke as it has recently been restored to its original grandeur, receiving several architectural design awards in the process.

Pembroke's hjistory is rooted in the lumber industry, and its future is very optimistic as we focus on the fact that we are the largest centre between Ottawa and North Bay along the Trans Canada Highway. It is the centre for health care, education, finance, legal and retail services for the region, meeting the daily needs of a central market population of approximately 72,000.

The Pembroke Regional Hospital has  experienced tremendous expansion, and the recent diagnostic services enhancements will serve the people of this region for many years to come, as they can be assured of the best in health care.

We strongly support our youth and the education system offers state of the art English and French elementary and high schools, as well as a Montessori school, daycare, and nursery school options for families. Algonquin College has been a cornerstone in our community for over forty years, and continues to offer courses of excellence that include programs in outdoor adventure, nursing, social services, business and forestry. Their new campus along our waterfront will herald even more growth and vitality in our city!

We proudly participate in the  Communities in Bloom program and have won the provincial and the national title as well as 5 blooms at the international level! Come and enjoy the Annual Old Time Fiddling and Step Dancing Competition held each Labour Day Weekend. Visitors  from all over the world come to experience the finest fiddling found in Canda. See our Murals - Canada's largest outdoor art gallery, with 30 exceptional large scale works of art depicting our rich history on our downtown buildings.

Pembroke is renowned as Hockey Town Canada, and if you like hockey you will love the Silver Stick Hockey Tournament that takes place each year. It is the largest amateur hockey tournament in North America with over 160 teams participating.

We have a lot to offer, and we invite you to come and live in a City that cherishes small town attributes.   Our website tells it all!
