Special Mention: Historical Interpretation in the Community Landscape
The City of Pembroke, a finalist in the International Challenge Largepopulation category of the 2011 National Edition of Communities in Bloom, received a 5 Bloom rating and a special mention for Historical Interpretation in the Community Landscape.
Following their evaluation of the community, volunteer judges Stephen King (Elmsdale, NS) and Bill Hahn (Akron, Ohio, USA) wrote:
Pembroke is an attractive vibrant city where community engagement and partnerships are intrinsic to everyday culture and way of life. The City is home to beautiful parks and attractive residential, institutional and business communities.
The City has developed an interpretive history of the community that is showcased throughout Pembroke’s landscape. A world class heritage mural program, museums, heritage homes, buildings, interpretive signage and artifacts provide a functional mosaic that can be enjoyed every day by residents and visitors.
